According to the definition set out by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), A refugee is a person who:
'owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country'

This project aims to meet people and tell their stories through the medium of a photographic project. Those who have escaped such persecutions, Those willing to share stories, are comfortable to be photographed in their own homes, and sanctuary, who can share their past experiences, of lives they have left behind, of family sacrifices they had to endure to do one thing. Live in hope.

HOPE
A WALES-BASED PROJECT
HOPE is a new project exploring the lives of those who have left all their belongings. To find a new place and call it home, In the hope of finding a sanctuary, from escaping wars, persecution, and hardships.
This project is starting in August 2024 and will likely continue until August 2026 in various forms.

Although the project aims to cover a wider geographic area of Wales, it aims to begin in Cardiff in August 2024. I hope to travel along to locations as the contacts grow.

The project is fully self-funded to tell the story of those who have been through enormous struggles while seeking refuge in another country. Due to this reason, I am unable to provide any financial help.
However, Once the project has finished, I will be more than happy to share your images with you, either as a print or a digital copy. -
Wherever you feel comfortable. I aim to tell a story, I can contact you to discuss where we might meet for photographs, I am happy to meet you in your house, or outside area, a local park, cafe etc

I feel for far too long refugees and asylum seekers have been given a bad press. I aim to show the human side of the story, the aspirations, the stories of life left behind. So it is to tell a story, albeit with pictures.

I hope to publish your stories in articles, blogs, and journals. I would hope to have the images exhibited locally and nationally to talk more about the difficulties our generations have faced, and perhaps, one day, publish this into a book. Who knows!
