ABANDONED
The Boys’ Village, St Athan’s
Filled with stunning photographs, Abandoned is a coffee table photobook that relates the story of The boy’s village in St Athan, South Wales. The village itself was built as a recreational camp for children of the Welsh coalfields in the 1920s. After extensive use, the camp was abandoned in the 1980s and eventually fell to vandalism. This photobook records the stunning visual elements in more than 48 images, most of them recorded using traditional analogue film cameras. The site was sold to private developers in 2010 and has been left in disrepair. Over the years the fallen roofs and walls, the overgrowth of nature and the colourful graffiti on what is remaining add so much character to the place. The author has tried to record this feeling which speaks volumes about its historical significance.
